Basket Weaving by Tortuga Baskets, Handmade - Instructor: Jo Guttormson June 16 9 am to 1:30 pm Create a Tulip Market Basket. It measures 6" x 11" x 7" with a sturdy oak handle. It is embellished with 3 rows of color (choices) and 2 rows of woven seqgrass. This is a great basket for taking to the market, the library, school or work. Stained Glass, an Introduction Instructor: Carol Vind June 19 1 pm to 3 pm Don't you cut yourself? How do you color the glass? How does it stick together? These are some of the questions that I have been asked while teaching beginning stained glass. Do you have questions? Have you always been fascinated with stained glass? This demonstration class will show you the basics. Observe the making of a project from the start to the finish. A discussion will follow for the participants interested in taking the beginner's classes. If you are interested in advance classes, please sign up online or at the Open House on June 13th. There are six 2-hour art workshops, each 9 am to 11 am. (Reference the calendar of classes) Each is designed to stand on its own but they are also meant to build on each other and run consecutively. Take 1, 2, 3 or all 6. You will astound yourself and others with what you create in these workshops and have fun to! Start at any skill level and build artistic confidence. 8 years old to adult. Instructor Therese Kunz has been creating & teaching art programs for the past 11 years. Most recently, she has developed and taught the highly successful, in-school Fine Arts Program at the Emily Charter School--now in its 8th year. Therese, an enthusiastic and passionate teacher, believes artistic talent can be developed in everyone. Therese has been a painter for over 20 years. Her painting have been exhibited in numerous juried art shows and art galleries in Minnesota including the Duluth Art Institute, the Tweed Museum of Art and a one woman show at the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids. Woodcarving - Beginning level - Instructor: Dick Joyce July 10 through August 28 8 Thursdays 9am to 11 am This course was developed for the St. Paul Adult Ed Program over 20 years ago. I taught this class for 15 years until I moved to Longville. It consists of 8 two hour sessions in which the students carve 6 projects. The projects start very simple and progress in difficulty. Fee: $30 class limit 12 students. The tools needed are a carving knife and a sharpening stone which I sell for $10 total. The projects for carving I bring cost from $1 to $4 each.

Watercolor Painting with "Special Effects" - Instructor: Jan Fabian Wallake (author of "Watercolor: Pour It On") July 26 9am to 12 noon Join our watercolor class and learn step-by-step from this nationally known artist how to paint the "right" way. Jan will show you how to begin a watercolor painting with washes of color, how to develop the painting with lots of "special effects", and how to finish with a flourish! You will leave with a beautiful painting of pine cones and a lot of new painting ideas. Glass Etching an Introduction Instructor: Anita Zaske August 14 9 am to 12 noon Learn the basic techniques to etching on glass. This will be a casual 3 hour workshop. All materials will be provided. Students should bring an exacto knife or craft knife and a "throw-away" clear glass bottle for practice. No experience necessary. For adults & teens (accompanied by adult) Anita has been doing stained glass for 18 years, 5 years in a retail/custom stained glass studio in Minneapolis, and the last 13 years at our home on Lake Wabedo just S. of Longville.
