All riders will be required to wear bike helmets and either safety vests or have flashing lights (provided with registration) attached to their bikes. Riders will be required to ride on road shoulders only (except on the Hwy. 84 portion which will be closed to vehicle traffic) and travel no more than two abreast (single file travel preferable). All road shoulders are paved and there are no rumble strips.
DETAILED ROUTE INFORMATION
If you have Google Earth on your computer, you can type in “Longville, Minnesota” in the Google Earth search box and then follow the route out of Longville.
The ride will begin in Longville on State Highway 84 just off the parking area at St. Edwards Catholic Church and proceed south on Hwy. 84 for about 6 miles. Hwy 84 will be closed to motorized vehicles for 2 ½ hours beginning at 8:30 to allow safe passage for bikers and runners. The road is windy and hilly and has no shoulders. This is an extremely scenic ride through Minnesota's beautiful north woods.
The second portion of the ride will be along Cass County Rd 11, a 3 ¼ mile ride along the south shore of Woman Lake. This portion of the ride is mostly flat with some small hills on the west end. County Rd. 11 was newly surfaced in 2010 and has wide, paved shoulders with no rumble strips. Vehicle traffic will be light along this portion of the ride.
The final leg of the ride will be to the northeast along Cass County Rd 5, a blacktopped highway with 6' wide paved shoulders, no rumble strips and it is marked as a formal “Bike Route”. This portion of the ride is about 9 ¼ miles into Longville where the ride ends. County Rd. 5 is relatively flat with several long, low hills. It's another beautiful ride along the shores of Woman Lake and through the wooded hills of the Chippewa National Forest. Riders can expect more vehicle traffic along County Rd 5.
POST RIDE ACTIVITIES
A Hospitality Tent, sponsored by Bill Hansen Realty, will be available to all riders at the end of the ride. Various beverages (non-alcoholic) will be served along with a selection of fruits and snacks.
We hope you will spend the weekend with us and enjoy great family fun in the beautiful Minnesota outdoors.
