| The Longville Turtle Races made history Wednesday, when for the first time in anyone's memory, the races were cancelled due to weather conditions. After consulting with most of the downtown business owners and members of the Chamber Activity Committee, they agreed that the temperature was too cold, the rain too intense, the distant intermittent thunder and lightening too risky, and the chances of equipment damage too great, to hold the races.
For the few racers who came to town, on the chance that the race would be held, we regret their inconvenience.
There was one very special "Solo Racer" Wyatt Duin age 4 of Portland Oregon visiting his Longville grandparents. He wasn't going to let a little rain, cold weather and the cancellation of the Turtle Race opener slow him down. With help from his Dad and Grandpa, Wyatt raced his prize turtle, "Billy Bob" on Longvilles Main Street. The race was followed up, in traditional fashion, with an ice cream cone at Frosty's where he was bestowed a Turtle Race Pin and Ribbon in recognition of his solo performance.
