Turtle Race Winners

| Under perfect skis and balmy Minnesota summer weather, 320 turtle racers came to Longville in hopes of fulfilling their dream of being the number one racer. Of the 320 racers, two emerged as the winners. Nine-year old Anna Gallagher of Osseo, MN was the Grand Winner and one-year-old Wyatt Hanson of Zimmerman, MN was the Grand Slowpoke Winner. Each received a bag full of prizes from local businesses and the Chamber of Commerce.
The afternoon started out with many hula hoopers vying for prizes as the best six hula hoopers in each group. Moms, Dads, and Grandparents also exhibited their hooping skills for prizes. Then came the ever-popular dance contests. While the Hoky Poky dance and the Macarena dance each are led by young people, it is the Chicken Dance that features the singers. Four young people sang the Chicken Dance song as nearly a hundred youth, and adults dance to the famed music. The singers included: Jenea Lien of Brooklyn Park, MN; Jon Maeser of Chanhassen, MN; Josie Peterson of Rochester, MN; and Lili Rothschild of Roanoke, VA. A group of four young people led the YMCA Dance Contest. They were: Michaela Town of Burnsville, MN; Sarah Huttner of Mpls., MN; Erin Jacobson of Monticello, MN, and Isabella Bracero of New Brighton, MN.
The first race of the day is the Resort Turtle Race. Eleven resorts competed for the honor of best racer. They were: Longville Inn, Tri-Birch Resort, Woman Lake Lodge, Evergreen Lodge, Pine Ridge Resort, Austin’s Swamp, Pine Haven Resort, Dancing Waters Resort, Kee-Nee-Moo-Sha Resort, Thunder Lake Lodge, and Girl Lake Resort. The winner was four year old Dakota Schroeder of Anoka, MN who with his family was vacationing at the Longville, Inn.
