The Rosewarne family from Minnetonka, Minnesota, reigned supreme during the last turtle race of Longville’s 2016 season, winning two of the three top titles. Ella Rosewarne, age 6, won Grand Slowpoke honors, and her brother, Ben age 12, won the Chamber Resort Race, representing Broadwater Lodge.
The Grand Champion title went to Jon Docken, age 9, of Northfield, Minnesota. He was wearing the lucky t-shirt that his brother, Joe, wore several years ago when he then won top turtle race honors. The final race day saw 149 racers in the regular races and another eight in the resort race.
With the successful 2016 turtle racing season now closed, the Longville Chamber would again like to thank all of the volunteers who make the turtle races possible, especially judges Charlee Stewart, Kate DeLost and Pat Boen, and race announcer John Weins and his assistants, Sandy Weins and Gerry Broshar. We would also like to recognize the volunteers from VFW Post 772 and Camp Olson YMCA.
Proceeds from the turtle races benefit community activities sponsored by the Longville Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce throughout the year.
