Member Spotlight: Deer Haven on Thunder Lake

Located on beautiful Thunder Lake, Deer Haven on Thunder is a full-service restaurant and bar open year-round, offering a welcoming atmosphere and high-quality dining in the heart of the Northwoods.

Owners Mike and Leigh have spent their entire lives in the hospitality industry and have both been coming to Thunder Lake—separately—since they were kids. When Deer Haven became available, they knew it was an opportunity they couldn’t pass up. As they say, “We knew what it once was, we knew what it became, and we know where we want to take it.”

Deer Haven is proud to be a scratch kitchen, meaning nearly everything is made in-house. From sauces and soups to handcrafted cocktails, fresh ingredients are used every time. Their dedication to quality also shows in the details—steaks are hand cut in-house, and anything fried is hand battered to order.

One of the things Mike and Leigh appreciate most is the incredible support from the local community. In fact, Deer Haven doesn’t rely on traditional advertising. Instead, they believe the best recommendation comes from friends and neighbors sharing their experiences.

Throughout the year, Deer Haven offers special events that keep guests coming back, including three opportunities each summer for live bands on the lakeside deck and monthly pairing dinners from October through March.
